Digital-DCTM Ease of Use

Zilker Labs developed its innovative Digital-DC ICs to be easy to implement. To make complicated digital power design easy for its customers, Zilker Labs created highly integrated solutions that are easily configurable through simple hardware settings or via the SMBus, avoiding the complicated programming step required by many digital solutions. Zilker Labs also offers a number of design tools to assist its customers' design processes.


High Integration  

Digital-DC ICs combine digital power conversion with power management logic in a single tiny package, reducing required component count by up to 60%. This not only saves board space and cost and simplifies the design process, but it also creates a better-performing, more robust system.

Shown at left is a complete 10A power conversion circuit with tracking, sequencing, margining, and power monitoring capabilities that requires only 0.27 in2 (1.7 cm2). Visit our design gallery for more examples of Digital-DC based applications.

 


Simple Configurability

 Digital-DC ICs can be easily configured with simple pin settings, avoiding the complicated programming step required by alternative solutions. This dramatically eases the design process, and can help the customer avoid assigning a software team to develop complicated code for the digital power supply, resulting in significant time-to-market acceleration. The diagrams below show three different ways for configuring the output voltage on Digital-DC ICs.

Nearly all functions can be configured using these simple methods,  including output voltage, switching frequency, soft-start delay/ramp times, UVLO threshold, current limit threshold, sequencing/tracking modes, margining, SMBus address selection and loop compensation.

Pin-strap:
no external components required

Resistor:
provides 10 mV resolution
VOUT = 0.6 - 5.0 V

SMBus:
greatest flexibility and 0.025% resolution
VOUT = 0.6 - 5.0 V

 


 Easy to Use Development Tools

Zilker Labs' development tools enable rapid circuit development and debugging by enabling real-time configuration and monitoring of multiple devices.    

     

Zilker Labs' evaluation software enables users to configure and monitor multiple Digital-DC devices simultaneously via their SMBus ports via a USB to SMBus Adapter and a Windows-based computer.
